A few words about me
I am a trained architect and practicing landscape architect from England and based in Switzerland, where I have lived for over twenty years. I oversee projects personally through all planning phases and value a direct relationship to my clients, collaborating with other landscape colleagues and consultants to realise projects that require greater capacity or other expertise.
Landscape architecture can touch, and potentially weave together, all strands of life. I am interested in the complexity of living environments and the ways in which human interventions and cultures challenge and influence their growth, decay and change. I am an artistic and applied person, conceptual and integrative in my ways of thinking and driven towards coherence and precision in design and communication.
Walking, thinking, making landscape.
I walk, sketch and photograph to commune with the world around me. Throughout the design process I use hand-drawing and model-making as means of expression and synthesis to compliment the digital planning process and help engage others in landscape design processes. Fluid communication is essential for any project that aims to bring together legal, practical and environmental requirements with the intuitive design judgements that give rise to atmosphere, meaning and a sense of place.
Search & Research
Every project is a research opportunity and there is always an element of boundary pushing in my work when approaching the brief, concept or design process. Prior to founding my own practice I held academic positions at the ETH Zurich and London Kingston University and in practice led design and research with Günther Vogt at Vogt Landscape Architects. I continue to value productive and inspiring exchanges with students and colleagues as a guest lecturer and critic.
